5 Signs it is Time to Change your Water Purifier Filter

Oct 30, 2019

Plumber trying to fix a water purifier

We live in an age where a large proportion of our public health problems are directly associated with water. Along with the rising number of diseases that spread through contaminated water, the requirement of water purifiers in India is also increasing. However, a water purifier is only as good as its filters. Thus, it is essential to keep track of how your machine is performing. And just like most other machines, there is a life to water purifier filters too. What is often overlooked is regular upkeep and maintenance of the installed units. Continue reading to learn how to identify and resolve problems related to your water filtration system.

Unusual Sounds or Vibrations

When the filter of your RO water purifier is replaced, you may find that odd sounds are originating from the drains or faucets. These are normally caused by the pressure difference between the filters and die down after 3 to 4 days of functioning. However, if you find that these sounds or vibrations persist, best to call customer service and rule out the possibility of a defective filter. Make sure you only use original and company-recommended filters to ensure you get the best results.

Turbidity and Appearance of Water

An essential quality that clean water possesses is transparency. If it so happens that the quality of water supplied to you lacks this quality, it implies that the water is unfit for drinking. Turbidity refers to the cloudiness of the water, which is a clear sign of an ineffective filtration system. You should change or more of the filters to rule out this problem.

Metallic Taste or Peculiar Odour

When a new RO water purifier has been installed, the tanks need to be drained out completely to ensure that the water is fit for consumption. If the water continues to have a metallic odour or a salty taste, you may want to check the filter or tone down the use of a water softener. A lingering problem with respect to the taste and odour calls for a specialists’ opinion. Definitely get in touch with the customer care service as soon as possible.

Decreasing Water Pressure

This problem can often be a result of the level of total dissolved solids (TDS) in your water source. The TDS in water is usually the cause behind blocked filters, and regular cleaning will ensure that the overall water pressure is not drastically affected. While in most cases, the water pressure is directly related to filter blockages, it is always best to get a second opinion. Most of the times it is due to a choked pre-filter which reduces the flow of water. Make sure you replace it with an original and a good quality RO water filter. Duplicate and inferior quality filters may not last and choke faster.

 High TDS Level in Water

TDS is an easy indicator of the level of ionised particles in water. You can get access to TDS meter online, which helps you know the level of TDS in water. Once it rises beyond the permissible limit, it may be time to change the filters of your water purifier. While a low TDS level is good, it should not be too low as it also means that your water is devoid of essential minerals.

Clean Water - A Precondition for Life

When it comes to water purifiers, one should certainly leave no room for doubt. A small investment can help you go a long way. After all, we are all aware of the rampant number of water-borne diseases. If you are thinking of buying a new water purifier, it is advised to go for a smart RO water purifier that notifies you with alerts on your phone apart from boasting of other user-friendly features.
